One of the biggest fashion events happened a few days ago, The Met Gala. We saw lavish dresses, known designers, and the biggest celebrities of the year came out and didn’t disappoint!
Every spring, invitations are sent out and at the bottom of each invitation is a small inscription of this seasons dress code. A small wording that can make or break a celebrities attire! With this season being the theme of, “I’m America: An Anthology of Fashion.” The dress code was chosen to be, “Gilded Glamour.”
Oh yes, fashion lovers, attendees were asked to step back into the gilded age, which stretched from 1870 to 1890! It was the period of the Gibson girl, prosperity, cultural change, and industrialization. During this period fabric became more accessible, thanks to the electric and steam powered looms, women’s dresses were often made of satin, silk, velvet, and fringe, and adorned with lace, frills, bows, and ruffles! Corsets were a common staple, where women embraced bigger than life bustles. However, It wasn’t until the 1890’s that mutton sleeves, bell shaped skirts, and the hour glass Gibson girl became the new fashion staple.
With over 200 attendees and gorgeous looks, I documented my favorite and most on theme looks from The Met Gala! Does it ring true for you too?
