6 Wedding Style Tips

It’s wedding season ladies! Which means, elaborate ceremonies, beautiful venues, and lots of love! I’m headed to a wedding soon and I thought this would be a great opportunity to give some wedding style advice!

First and foremost, understanding the different attires is sometimes needed when a wedding has a dress code! This can help you shop or simply pick something to wear more easily.

Here are a few dress codes you should look for when invited to a wedding:

1. White Tie: most formal attire possible! Think, White House state dinners!

2. Black Tie: the next most formal wedding attire. Think, floor length gowns and black tuxedos.

3. Cocktail: semi formal, but not as formal as black tie. Think, tea length dresses.

4. Semi Formal or Dressy Casual: less formal than any other dress code, but not as casual to wear jeans! Think, below the knee dress or elegant pantsuit!

Now that we’ve cleared what some dress codes you may come across, let’s talk about some wedding style tips!

1. Follow The Dress Code!

The invitation usually sets the tone for the wedding, whether it’s going to be casual, formal, or an extravagant affair! You don’t want to be overdressed or worse, underdressed! Knowing what the dress code first will give you an idea of where to start selecting your attire for the wedding!

2. When In Doubt Wear a Dress!

It’s the most easiest thing to consider and wear at a wedding! It’s a safe bet when weddings don’t have a dress code. It’s a wedding and weddings are special occasions! They are not your average backyard barbecue! However, if you know the bride and groom and they are more of a casual couple, than don’t wear a formal gown, wear a casual dress!

3. Don’t Wear White/Ivory!

The biggest rule of thumb is not to wear the same color the bride will be wearing! I’m sure we’ve all heard this rule at some point, but even in 2022, this is still a tip I would recommend following! There are thousands of color shades you can choose from and white or ivory shouldn’t be one of them.

4. If You Don’t Like Dresses…

For those who hate wearing dresses or are just tired of wearing them to weddings, consider wearing a romper or pantsuit! They can easily be dressed up for a formal affair! If you shop ahead, you can possibly order one from a bridal shop!

5. Don’t Wear Neon Colors!

Neon, bold colors are a trendy summer staple, but are not for weddings! I made a mistake in wearing a green neon dress for a wedding and I felt like I was a walking neon sign! It was definitely one of my fashion mistakes, but It was a cute dress to wear at a girls night out or date night, just not for a wedding.

6. Consider the Venue

Sometimes venues are held outside, which means possible unpredictable weather. So, you’ll want to bring a coat for those chilly nights or dress according to weather that day! I would also recommend a wedge instead of a heel so your heel doesn’t get stuck in the grass!

That’s all for now! I hope these style tips helped you for your next wedding day attire! Let me know in the comments what style tip(s) helped you the most?
