Styling exists in many forms and can take practice to acquire a certain level of appeal. I continue to struggle with my level of styling to this day, but I remind myself that knowing how to style myself doesn’t happen overnight. Understanding statement pieces and learning how to buy them can aid your selection by putting a look together.
Statement pieces are just as they sound, big, bold, and fun! They can be anything from; a choice of color, accessories, or even your hair! They’re the center of attention and shouldn’t be weighed down. Over the years, I have come to find a few rules that have helped me through my style journey.
Here are just a few rules to keep in mind when wearing a statement piece:
1. Own your statement piece
Sometimes we need a hero piece to be the focal point of the look. Having a; monochromatic look is sometimes the best way to add a bold accessory to elevate your look.
2. Details
It’s all in the details. A statement piece doesn’t have to be bold and colorful. Printed detail on your shirt or shoe will make a striking detail to make any outfit pop. An eye-catchy piece is all you need to make your look unique.
3. Don’t overdo it
There’s a difference between a bold look and accentuating a look with a statement piece. Your statement piece should complement and work with your look, don’t overdo it.
4. When in doubt, use color
The easiest way to incorporate a statement piece is through a bold color. Mixing and matching with color is the way to go when you’re feeling; in style ruts.
